OUTrun Fundraiser: Glasgow FrontRunners

OUTrun Fundraiser: Glasgow FrontRunners

We were delighted to be the chosen charity for Glasgow FrontRunners’ annual race, OUTrun – a 5 mile race around Kelvingrove Park, hosting up to 500 runners. It is their largest event and Scotland’s largest LGBTQIA+ race.

This year was OUTrun’s 10th anniversary, which opened with a warm-up act at the Kelvingrove Bandstand ahead of the race. At each of their events, FrontRunners raise money for a local LGBTQIA+ charity through donations, bake sales, and raffles, and we were honoured to again be chosen as the recipient charity for the funds raised. Over the course of the day, OUTrun raised an incredible £2785.

Many of our members went to school in Scotland, and suffered or witnessed homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic abuse.

We know all too well the impact this has on our community, and that is why we continually choose to support TIE. The work you do for our community is life changing. Thank you so much!"

Aidan Smeaton Communications Secretary 2023-24

Glasgow FrontRunners is Scotland’s largest LGBTQIA+ focused sports club with over 300 members. They’re the second largest FrontRunners club in the UK and one of the top ten largest FrontRunners clubs in the world. Founded in 2010, the club has gone from strength to strength and enjoys a diverse, mixed-ability membership.

We are grateful to all at Glasgow FrontRunners, from the organisers to participants, for once again choosing to support our work at OUTrun 2024.

As a small charity, the club's continued fundraising provides us with the flexibility we need to be adaptive and responsive to emerging issues that affect young people at school.

In particular, we know through our work that harmful content shared on social media platforms has had an impact on young people, who are increasingly exposed to derogatory content about different groups of people online, including LGBT people. This has an impact on the prevalence of homophobia and other forms of prejudice in schools, and Glasgow FrontRunners' support has allowed us to more quickly begin developing resources which will help to address this."
